Project: Evaluate the impact of price drops and retailer promotions on sales of competitive hardware consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One). By using NPD and Numerator to find out about weekly sales and retailer promotions, I then conducted my own research to determine when consoles experienced price drops or experienced a lift in console sales. For my final deliverable, I was then asked to summarize my findings in a presentation deck that Retail Strategy & Insights is currently using as a reference deck for future retail marketing strategy analysis.
Throughout my time in this project as a Retail Marketing & Strategy Intern, I worked closely with customer business analysts and retail marketing managers on understanding Nintendo’s holiday season promotions and game announcement campaigns. I then researched on current retailer promotions and industry events such as E3, Prime Day, and Black Friday for competitor consoles to understand their platform’s strategy and discovered parallels and similarities with Nintendo’s promotions during those times. After, I proposed recommendations to the entire Retail Marketing Team on what Nintendo should and shouldn’t do for retail marketing and the Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing was interested in my findings that has furthered the movement at Nintendo to be doing more competitor research for retailer promotions and industry events. After this project, I learned how important it is to storytell data and analyze data to make key business decisions.
